K-Pop has been growing its popularity in Sri Lanka within the past two decades. However, we still do not have market places that directly sell kpop merchandise. Hence, a lot of fans go through a lot of trouble and confusion when buying kpop products.

Luckily, we have three options available for those who wish to buy albums.

1. Direct Buying

You can find out online marketplaces that sells the albums or other merchandise you wish to buy. First you will have to check if those sites are shipping the given items to Sri Lanka. Then if you have a pay pal account, credit or debit card, you will be able to place the order. This method comes with a risk of your parcel getting detained at the customs. The chance of this happening is very minimal. If this happens, you can go to their office in Slave Island and clear the parcels.

One of the major issues faced by fans who follow this method is the shipping fee. There are many cases that the shipping charges of these items exceed the actual worth of the merchandise. There has also been very few cases where the packages were damaged or misplaced while shipping.

2. Buying as a Group

The expensive shipping fee has inspired and pushed the fans to figure out this method of purchasing.

If you can find out a bunch of kpop fans who are looking forward to buy albums, you all can get together and place the order. There are some websites that waive off the shipping fee if a specific amount is paid on the goods. If not, you all can split the shipping and customs fee among your friends.

However, not everyone has friends who are willing to buy albums at the same time. Therefore, the final method will be very useful.

3. Importers

This consists of kpop merchandise market places that brings down your favourite items.

If you want to buy an album, you can teach out to them with the request. Then they will check the availability of the specific album and share the price with you. Afterwards, if you are willing to buy it, you will have to make the payment to the importer. Once they gather people who want to buy merchandises, they place an order for the entire group at once. Hence, the charges and custom charges will be devided among the group memebers and the financial burden will be reduced. Once the pacakge reach them, they will distribute the individual items among the memebers in the group.

I personally recommend this method as the more reliable option to bring down merchandise as the importers will be accountable for the purchases they make.

Most importantly, the Importers are doing this to help put fellow fans and do not keep any profit margin for themselves.
